What Oxalin Baby is and what it is used for
Oxalin Baby is a medicine in the form of a nasal gel containing the active substance oxymetazoline hydrochloride, which belongs to the group of medicines called sympathomimetics.
Oxalin Baby applied topically to the nasal mucosa, narrows the blood vessels, reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa and inhibits excessive secretion, which facilitates free nasal breathing. It unblocks the nasal passages and facilitates the drainage of secretions from the paranasal sinuses.
Oxalin Baby is in the form of a gel, which moisturizes the nasal mucosa and prevents the drug from flowing to the bottom of the nasal cavity and the throat.
Oxalin Baby in the form of a nasal gel is intended for use by children from 1 to 6 years of age.
Oxalin Baby is used:
- in acute rhinitis;
- in vasomotor rhinitis;
- in allergic rhinitis;
- in inflammation of the paranasal sinuses;
- in inflammation of the Eustachian tube;
- in otitis media.
What you need to know before taking Oxalin Baby
Do not use Oxalin Baby
- If you are allergic to oxymetazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine .
- If you have dry rhinitis (atrophic rhinitis with scabs forming).
Warnings and Precautions
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using Oxalin Baby .
Oxalin Baby may be used with extreme caution and only after obtaining medical advice in the case of:
- treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and other drugs that increase blood pressure;
- increased pressure in the eyes, especially in the case of so-called angle-closure glaucoma;
- severe diseases of the heart and blood vessels, e.g. ischemic heart disease, arterial hypertension;
- phaeochromocytoma (a tumor in the glands just above the kidneys);
- metabolic disorders, e.g. hyperthyroidism, diabetes.
Oxalin Baby should not be used for more than 3-5 days and in doses higher than recommended, as this may lead to a reduced drug effect and cause difficult to heal changes in the nasal mucosa.
Kids
Do not use the drug in children under 1 year of age.
Adhere to the dosage and duration of use.
Other Drugs and Oxalin Baby
Tell the doctor or pharmacist about all the drugs taken by the patient now or recently, as well as about the drugs that the patient is planning to take. Overdose or accidental drinking of the drug, as well as the use of tricyclic antidepressants or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (drugs used, for example, in depression), at the same time or just before taking oxymetazoline, may increase blood pressure.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Driving vehicles and operating machinery
Systemic effects on the cardiovascular system cannot be excluded during long-term use of the drug or use in higher doses than recommended . In such cases, psychophysical fitness, the ability to drive vehicles and operate machines may be impaired.
Oxalin Baby contains benzalkonium chloride
The drug contains 0.1 mg of benzalkonium chloride in each g of gel. Benzalkonium chloride can cause irritation or swelling inside the nose, especially if used for a long time.

What Oxalin Baby contains
- The active substance is oxymetazoline hydrochloride. 1 g of gel contains 0.25 mg of oxymetazoline hydrochloride.
- The other ingredients are: sodium chloride; disodium phosphate dodecahydrate; sodium dihydrogen phosphate monohydrate; edetate disodium; hydroxyethyl cellulose; glycerol; benzalkonium chloride solution; Purified Water.

Oxalin Baby is colorless or light yellow, transparent or slightly opalescent
thick liquid.
The drug is available:
- in glass bottles with an atomizer containing 10 g of gel, in a cardboard box,
- in 15 ml polyethylene bottles closed with a dosing pump and an applicator with a protective cap containing 10 g of gel, in a cardboard box.
