Product information
The active ingredient is allantoin (Allantoinum).
1 g of ointment contains 20 mg of allantoin.
Excipients: lanolin, liquid paraffin, white petrolatum, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate, propylene glycol, purified water.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Alantan ointment is intended for topical application to the skin.
Alantan should be gently applied to the affected areas 2 to 3 times a day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
A small amount of the ointment can be applied to a sterile compress and applied to the cleansed wound. The dressing should be changed once or twice a day.
Action
Allantoin contained in Alantan affects the skin through:
- keratolytic (exfoliating) effect,
- stimulating the growth of new tissue,
- skin protective effect,
- improvement of skin hydration.
If used regularly in hyperkeratosis of the skin, it can prevent excessive keratin deposition
Indications
Alantan ointment is used in the case of:
- treatment of difficult-to-heal wounds, burns (including sun burns),
- treatment of chronic skin inflammations with excessive exfoliation and keratosis (atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and other skin diseases),
- treatment of shallow ulcers, skin and mucosa defects.
Contraindications
When not to use Alantan ointment ?
- if you are allergic to allantoin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
- for eyes,
- for acute skin inflammation with exudate.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Not known:
- hypersensitivity reactions,
- skin irritation.
Warnings and Precautions
- Due to the content of lanolin, propyl glycol and ethyl parahydroxybenzoate, the product may cause local skin irritation.
- Alantan can be used within 6 months from the date of first use of the drug, without exceeding the expiry date stated on the package.
- Keep the drug out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store below 25 ° C in the original package.
