Features
Macrogol is a water-soluble, inert polymer with a high molecular weight that has the ability to bind water ingested with the preparation, retaining it in the stool. It hydrates and softens the fecal mass and facilitates its expulsion. It speeds up the intestinal transit by stimulating peristalsis. It is not absorbed or metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract and taken with liquid in the indicated doses does not lead to water and electrolyte imbalance.
Simethicone is a substance that has the ability to reduce the surface tension of gas bubbles in the digestive tract, facilitating their excretion.
Dosage
Adults and children over 12 years (43 kg)
– 1 to 3 sachets a day
The dose should be increased or decreased, depending on the individual response to treatment, to allow regular bowel movement of soft stools. The maximum dose needed usually does not exceed 3 sachets a day.
Dissolve the powder in water or other liquid (180 ml per sachet) and take immediately. When taking the minimum dose (1 sachet per day), it is recommended to take the product in the morning. In the case of higher doses, they should be divided into portions taken in the morning and in the evening.
When not to use the product
Do not take Dicopeg si in the case of known hypersensitivity to macrogol or another ingredient of the product, perforation, intestinal obstruction or stenosis, paralytic ileus, serious inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, acute megacolon. The use of laxatives is contraindicated in the presence of acute abdominal or unexplained pain, nausea and vomiting, unexplained rectal bleeding and severe dehydration.
Side effect
Gastrointestinal disorders (abdominal pain, bloating, abdominal fullness, nausea, faecal incontinence) may occur. Diarrhea is a secondary effect of taking too high doses of Dicopeg si and can be avoided by reducing the dose. Hypersensitivity (skin rash) has been reported rarely with macrogol-containing products. Stop treatment if necessary and consult your doctor.
Warnings
Administration to children should be under direct adult supervision. As a precautionary measure, consult your physician before use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging and sachet. Do not use if the package is opened or damaged. The maximum daily dose should not be exceeded.
Disposable product: do not use sachets partially or open at an unknown time, as such use may lead to the risk of contamination of the product. Keep the product or the resulting solution out of the reach of children. If there is no improvement after 7 days of treatment, consult a doctor. The product may shorten the intestinal transit time and thus the absorption of orally administered drugs. Therefore, it is advisable to consult a doctor in case of concomitant oral medication, which in any case must be administered at least 2 hours apart.
