“The uromedia consists of two solid substrates covering a plastic plate mounted in a lid inside a sterile container (dip mold):
Substrate 1 – CLED substrate supports the growth of most bacteria, which are the most common cause of urinary tract infections. CLED medium does not contain electrolyte, which prevents Proteus sp from spreading.
Medium 2 – MacConkey medium ensures the growth and initial differentiation of gram-negative bacteria. Gram-negative lactose-degrading bacilli grow as red colonies (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae), while non-lactose-degrading bacilli form colorless or pink colonies (Proteus sp.).
Application:
Thanks to substrates covering both sides of the dish, the microbiological contamination of the test sample can be assessed and culturable colonies can be quickly identified. All additional tests aimed at identifying microorganisms and determining their sensitivity to antibiotics can be performed on colonies grown on Uromedium media. Each kit provides a safe system for transporting inoculated urine to the microbiology laboratory.
Uromedium allows:
– confirm or exclude microbiological contamination of urine after 16-24 hours;
– quantitative assessment of all microorganisms, corresponding to the number of bacterial cells in 1 ml – comparison with a density standard;
– quantitative assessment and color differentiation of colonies of gram-negative bacteria.
