Indication:
Alpha-lipoic acid is a substance formed as a result of the body’s own metabolism in higher living beings and affects certain metabolic processes in the body. In addition, alpha-lipoic acid has protective (antioxidant) properties for the nerve cell from reactive decay products.
The medicine is used for:
Abnormal sensations due to diabetic nerve damage (polyneuropathy)
Dosage:
Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, this is the usual dose.
In case of severe abnormal sensations caused by diabetic polyneuropathy, adults are recommended to infuse 1 ampoule (equivalent to 600 mg alpha-lipoic acid) of isotonic saline solution once a day.
Intravenous administration should be carried out as a short infusion for at least 30 minutes after mixing the contents with 250 ml of isotonic saline solution. Since the active ingredient is sensitive to light, the short infusion should be prepared shortly before use. The infusion solution should be protected from light with aluminum foil. The shelf life of the infusion solution, protected from light, is about 6 hours. Care should be taken to ensure that the minimum infusion time is 30 minutes.
At the initial stage of treatment, the drug is administered as an infusion of isotonic saline solution for 2-4 weeks.
As a further therapy, 300-600 mg of alpha-lipoic acid should be taken daily in the form of capsules, tablets or film-coated tablets.
