Ingredients
The active substance is ferrous gluconate in a dose of 200 mg, which corresponds to 23.2 mg of iron ions.
1 coated tablet contains 200 mg of ferrous gluconate.
Other ingredients (excipients) are: ascorbic acid, talc, potato starch, stearic acid, propylene glycol and Aqua-Polish P red coating, consisting of: hypromellose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, macrogol, triglycerides of saturated fatty acids of medium length, talc, oxide titanium dioxide (E171), Allura Red AC, see (E 129), black iron oxide (E 172), red iron oxide (1172).
dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as directed in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
adult
• Therapeutic: usually 2 coated tablets three times a day with or after food; in case of severe deficiencies, 2 coated tablets twice a day.
• Preventative: approximately 60 mg of iron (3 coated tablets) daily in divided doses.
Use in children
• Therapeutic for children older than 3 years: 4 to 6 mg of iron per kg of body weight per day in divided doses.
• Preventive: 2 mg per kg of body weight daily in divided doses.
action
Iron deficiency can affect red blood cell production and tissue respiration by reducing the amount of oxygen-carrying and consuming proteins (hemoglobin and myoglobin).
Indication
Intended use:
• Iron deficiency is related to blood loss
• Conditions of increased need for iron in the body (in children during rapid growth, during pregnancy and breastfeeding);
• Conditions related to malabsorption or a low iron diet.
Contraindication
When Ascofer should not be used :
• in blood diseases: hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis (pigmented cirrhosis, characterized by increased absorption and excessive deposition of iron in internal organs), hemolytic and aplastic anemia, proliferative diseases;
• in case of liver cirrhosis;
• in case of hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
• Gastrointestinal diseases: diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, pain in the upper abdomen.
• Immune system disorders: hypersensitivity reactions.
Warnings and precautions
Keep out of the reach of small children.
Store at room temperature.
Protect from light and moisture.
Taking other medicines
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking or have recently taken, and about any medicines you may take.
Taking the drug with food and drink
It is not recommended to take the drug at the same time as coffee, tea, eggs, foods containing bicarbonate, carbonate, oxalate or phosphate, milk or milk products, whole grain bread or cereals and other products containing fiber, as these can reduce iron absorption.
Oral iron supplements should not be taken one hour before or two hours after eating these foods.
