This novel by the famous writer, which was created in 1957 and published in 1961, is one of his first, but also the most famous works, although it lacks elements of magical realism. The protagonist of the novel, Colonel Tares, who has been waiting for his retirement for fifteen years, is one of the most beloved and heartwarming characters in the Spanish literature of the 20th century.
