Metafen Diastolic contains drotaverine, which has a spasmolytic (diastolic) effect on smooth muscles. Used in spasms in the course of digestive and urogenital diseases and in painful menstruation.
Composition
The active ingredient is drotaverine hydrochloride ( Drotaverini hydrochloridum ).
Each tablet contains 40 mg drotaverine hydrochloride.
Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, magnesium stearate.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The drug is administered orally.
Adults: 120 mg to 240 mg (4 to 8 tablets) daily in 2-3 divided doses.
The maximum daily dose is 240 mg (8 tablets).
Children:
If Metafen is required for diastolic use in children:
– daily dose for children from 6 to 12 years of age: 80 mg (2 tablets) divided into 2 doses.
– daily dose for children over 12 years of age: 160 mg (4 tablets), divided into 2-4 doses.
Do not use the drug for more than 10 days without consulting a doctor.
Action
The active substance of the drug – drotaverine is a synthetic derivative of papaverine. The drug has a diastolic (spasmolytic) effect on smooth muscles. The action of the drug is particularly marked in spasms in the abdominal cavity, biliary tract, urogenital system, gastrointestinal tract and cardiovascular system.
Indications
Metafen Diastolic is used in contractile states of smooth muscles associated with diseases of the bile ducts (gallstones of the
gallbladder and biliary tract, cholecystitis); urinary tract (kidney stones, inflammation of the renal pelvis, cystitis, painful urge to urinate).
It is used as an auxiliary in contractile states of smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract: in
gastric and duodenal ulcer disease, in spasmodic states of the pyloric and pylorus of the stomach, in irritable colon syndrome, in spastic constipation and intestinal distension, and in dysmenorrhea.
Contraindications
Do not use the drug in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any component of the preparation and in patients with severe heart, liver or kidney failure and second-third degree atrioventricular block.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): headache, dizziness, insomnia, drowsiness at high doses, weakness, low blood pressure, palpitations, nausea, loss of appetite, constipation, angioedema, hives, rash, itching
Not known (cannot be estimated from the available data): postpartum bleeding.
Warnings and Precautions
Special care should be taken when using Metafen. Diastolic: in patients with porphyria; with hypotension; in children, as no studies on the effects of drotaverine have been conducted in this group; in pregnant women.
Drotaverine should not be used during labor.
Store the drug in a dry place, out of the sight and reach of children, in the original packaging, at a temperature below 25 ° C.
Use of other medications
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the drugs you are taking or have recently taken, and about any drugs you plan to take, including those sold without a prescription.
Concomitant use with products containing levodopa reduces the effectiveness of their anti-Parkinsonian effect and the severity of tremors and stiffness.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
The drug can be used in pregnant women only when absolutely necessary. Do not use the drug during childbirth and breastfeeding.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Do not use in children under 6 years of age.
Driving and operating machinery
Caution should be exercised in case of dizziness.
