Field of application
Blanelle® is used to alkalinize urine, for example for metaphylaxis (prevention of recurrence) of certain urinary stones (e.g. calcium oxalate stones, uric acid stones).
Dosage
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
The daily dose should be adjusted individually to the patient so that the pH of freshly obtained urine is 6.0-7.0 until the next dose (if pure uric acid stones are present, ideally with a pH of 6.2 – 6.8 and, in the case of calcium stones, preferably with a pH of 6.4 – 7.0). The following dosage recommendations are given for adults:
a) 3-4 effervescent tablets per day, divided into 3 separate doses, corresponding to 9.9-13.2 g sodium hydrogen carbonate per day (i.e. 90-120 mmol alkali or 36-48.8 mmol citrate): take 1 effervescent tablet in the morning and at noon and 1-2 effervescent tablets in the evening.
b) In the case of calcium stones, 1-2 effervescent tablets can be taken in the evening as an alternative, once – 3.3 – 6.6 g of sodium hydrogen carbonate should be taken accordingly (i.e. 30 – 60 mmol of alkali and 12 – 24 mmol of citrate).
To check the correct dosage, it is recommended to measure the amount of citrate excreted in 24 hours and the pH of the urine at the beginning of therapy and each time the dose is adjusted. If the specified pH range is underestimated or exceeded, the daily dose should be increased or decreased. Such adjustments should preferably be made in the evening.
Duration of use:
The duration of use depends on the individual requirements of the patient and is determined by the attending physician.
Contraindications
Do not take the medicine if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to citric acid, potassium citrate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium carbonate or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.
with impaired renal function
with severely impaired liver function
with metabolic alkalosis
chronic urinary tract infections caused by urea-splitting bacteria (risk of struvite stones),
with very high blood pressure
with a low-salt diet
as well as with hereditary episodic adynamia (periodic hyperkalemic paralysis; a rare hereditary disease with paralytic symptoms).”
