“Escitalopram contains:
Active ingredient: Escitalopram oxalate equivalent to 10 mg escitalopram base
Other ingredients: core – microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, povidone K30, corn starch, magnesium stearate, sodium starch glycolate;
Shell: titanium dioxide, hypromellose, talc, propylene glycol, red dye (E124).
Escitalopram contains the active ingredient escitalopram and is used to treat depression (major depressive episode) and anxiety disorders (such as panic disorder with or without agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder).
It will take several weeks before you start to feel better. Continue taking Escitalopram even if it may take some time before you feel any improvement in your condition.
How to take Escitalopram
Always take the drug strictly as prescribed by your doctor.
Adults:
Depression
The recommended optimal dose of Escitalopram is 10 mg once daily. Then, as prescribed by the doctor, the dose can be increased to 20 mg per day.
Panic disorders
The recommended starting dose of Escitalopram is 5 mg once daily for the first week before increasing the dose to 10 mg daily. The dose can be increased by the doctor to 20 mg per day.
Social anxiety disorder
The recommended optimal dose of Escitalopram is 10 mg once daily. Your doctor may either reduce the dose to 5 mg per day or increase the dose to 20 mg per day, depending on your body’s response.
Generalized anxiety disorder
The recommended optimal dose of Escitalopram is 10 mg once daily. Then, as prescribed by the doctor, the dose can be increased to 20 mg per day.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder
The recommended optimal dose of Escitalopram is 10 mg once daily. Then, as prescribed by the doctor, the dose can be increased to 20 mg per day.
Elderly patients (over 65 years old)
The recommended starting dose of Escitalopram is 5 mg once daily. Then, as prescribed by the doctor, the dose can be increased to 10 mg per day.
Children and teenagers (under 18 years old)
Escitalopram should not be prescribed to children and adolescents. For more information please see section

Do not take Escitalopram:
if you are allergic (hypersensitivity) to Escitalopram or any other component of the drug (see section Contents of the package and additional information),
if you are taking other medicines that belong to the class of MAO inhibitors, including selegiline (used to treat Parkinson’s disease), moclobemide (used to treat depression) and linezolid (an antibiotic).
if you have congenital or acquired cardiac arrhythmia (determined by ECG; examination assessing the functional functioning of the heart),
if you are taking anti-arrhythmic drugs or drugs that can affect the heart rhythm (see section “Other drugs and Escitalopram”).
