“Composition of Espholen
Active substance: essential phospholipids (phosphatidylcholine from soybean dried substance containing 93% (3-sn-phosphatidyl) choline) – 250 mg;
Excipients: deoxycholic acid – 126.5 mg, sodium chloride – 12 mg, riboflavin – 0.5 mg, benzyl alcohol – 45 mg, ethanol – 25 mg, sodium hydroxide – 13.4 mg, water for injection – up to 5 ml .

Yellow or yellow-greenish transparent liquid.
Indications
Fatty liver degeneration (including liver damage due to diabetes), acute and chronic hepatitis, hepatic coma and precoma, liver cirrhosis, liver cell necrosis, pre- and postoperative treatment for surgery on the liver and biliary tract, toxic liver damage, toxicosis pregnant women, psoriasis, radiation syndrome.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug Espholen. The drug should not be prescribed to children under 3 years of age, since the drug contains benzyl alcohol.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
According to indications. Use with caution during pregnancy, since the drug Espholen contains benzyl alcohol, which can penetrate the placental barrier.
If it is necessary to use the drug in nursing mothers, breastfeeding should be stopped (Espholen contains benzyl alcohol).
Dosage and method of administration
The drug Espholen is administered intravenously slowly, 5-10 ml per day, and in severe cases – 10-20 ml per day. Do not exceed a single dose of 10 ml. To dilute the drug, it is recommended to use the patient’s own blood in a 1:1 ratio. IV administration is usually continued for up to 10 days. It is recommended to supplement parenteral administration of the drug with oral capsules as early as possible.
The total duration of treatment is 1–6 months.
For psoriasis, the drug Espholen is used as an adjuvant therapy.
If it is impossible to use the patient’s own blood, the drug can be diluted in a 5% or 10% dextrose solution for infusion (in a 1:1 ratio).
Electrolyte solutions should not be used to dilute the drug.
Side effect
Rarely – development of hypersensitivity reactions; very rarely – allergic reactions in the form of skin rash, urticaria, exanthema, itching.
