- Iceland lichen (Cetraria islandica) has been used since ancient times as an emollient for the respiratory tract. Icelandic lichen contains polysaccharides, lichen, isolichen and fumarocetaric acid and has immunostimulating, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. These polysaccharides cover the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract and form a protective layer that has a soothing effect and thus relieves coughing.
The extract of plantain (Plantago lanceolata) has a mucolytic, expectorant and antispasmodic effect on the upper respiratory tract.
The extract of the roots of marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) effectively relieves cough. The white blush contains polysaccharides and mucilaginous substances that form a protective film and soothe the irritated mucous membrane, leading to a reduction in the urge to cough.
