Nifuroxazide Aflofarm is a medicinal product intended for adults and children over 6 years of age. Its active ingredient is nifuroxaide, an antibacterial agent used for acute and chronic bacterial diarrhea.
Compound
The active ingredient of the drug is nifuroxazidum.
Each film-coated tablet contains 200 mg of nifuroxazide (Nifuroxazidum).
Excipients: pregelatinized starch, povidone K 30, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate. Opadry II White coating: polyvinyl alcohol, macrogol 3350, titanium dioxide (E 171), talc.
Dosage
The dosage is determined by the doctor individually for the patient.
Adults: 4 tablets (800 mg) per day in 2–4 divided doses.
Children over 6 years of age: 3–4 tablets (600–800 mg) per day in 2–4 divided doses.
Action
Aflofarm nifuroxazide has antibacterial activity in the intestinal lumen against certain types of bacteria. Does not destroy the natural bacterial flora of the gastrointestinal tract and does not cause the development of resistant strains. The drug is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is excreted unchanged from the body.
Indications
The drug is recommended for use in acute and chronic diarrhea of bacterial origin and other diseases accompanied by diarrhea.
Contraindications
The drug should not be used in case of: hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the drug, in children under 6 years of age, deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (due to the risk of developing hemolytic anemia).
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine may cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
In some cases of an allergic reaction to nifuroxazide, the following side effects may occur: rash, severe swelling of the face, mouth or throat, difficulty breathing, speaking or swallowing, a sharp drop in blood pressure, slow or fast heart rate, pallor, restlessness, sweating, dizziness, loss of consciousness , respiratory and cardiac arrest); Quincke’s edema, swelling of the head and neck, which can cause difficulty swallowing and breathing.

Warnings and Precautions
If, despite treatment, diarrhea persists for more than 3 days or becomes more severe, contact your doctor.
If hypersensitivity reactions occur (shortness of breath, rash, itching), the drug should be discontinued immediately.
When treating diarrhea, it is necessary to constantly replenish fluid reserves, on average 2 liters per day for an adult. In cases of severe and prolonged diarrhea, severe vomiting, and reluctance to eat, intravenous hydration should be considered.

Taking other medications

The drug should be used in conjunction with a diet that excludes juices, raw vegetables and fruits, spicy and indigestible foods, frozen foods and cold drinks. During therapy, it is recommended to eat rice and baked meat.
While taking Nifuroxazide Aflofarm, you should not drink alcohol, as it can cause acute and serious intolerance reactions (so-called disulfiram-like reactions).
