The active ingredient of the drug, simethicone, causes the bursting of gas bubbles contained in food and gastrointestinal mucus. Due to this, the gases released in this way can be absorbed by the intestinal wall or removed from the digestive tract as a result of peristaltic movements of the intestine.
Indications
Espumisan is used:
For the symptomatic treatment of gastrointestinal disorders associated with excessive gas formation, such as flatulence, infantile intestinal colic in children over 1 month.
Supports preparation for abdominal examinations such as x-rays, ultrasounds and gastroscopy.
As a defoaming agent for poisoning with surfactants (detergents).

1–2 ml (25–50 drops), corresponding to 40–80 mg of simethicone, daily in 2 (2 times a day, 13–25 drops)–4 (4 times a day, 6–13 drops) divided doses. ; total daily dose not more than 80 mg; Espumisan should be added to a bottle of milk or given by spoon before or after breastfeeding.
Children from 1 to 6 years old
1 ml (25 drops), which corresponds to 40 mg of simethicone, 3-5 times a day.
Children from 6 to 14 years old
1 ml (25 drops) – 2 ml (50 drops or 1 dose from a dosing pump), which corresponds to 40 – 80 mg of simethicone 3-5 times a day.
Youth and adults
2 ml (50 drops or 1 dose using a dispenser), corresponding to 80 mg of simethicone, 3-5 times a day.
Note: Espumisan can be prescribed to patients in the postoperative period.
Espumisan can be taken during or after meals, and, if necessary, before bedtime.
Treatment should be continued until symptoms disappear. If necessary, Espumisan can be used for a longer period of time.
In preparation for diagnostic examinations of the abdominal cavity:
X-ray and ultrasound examination:
2 ml (50 drops or 1 dose from a dispenser) Espumisan 3 times a day on the eve of the study and 2 ml (50 drops or 1 dose from a dispenser) Espumisan in the morning on the day of the study, on an empty stomach.
As an excipient administered together with a contrast agent suspension:
For double-contrast imaging, 4 to 8 ml (100–200 drops or 2–4 doses using a metering pump) of Espumisan are used per 1 liter of contrast fluid.
When preparing patients for endoscopic examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract (gastroscopy):
Before endoscopy, 4–8 ml (equivalent to 100–200 drops or 2–4 pump doses).
If necessary, during the examination, an additional few ml of emulsion can be poured through the instrumental channel of the endoscope to reduce foaming of the gastrointestinal contents.
As an antidote for poisoning with detergents (surfactants):
Dosage in adults
Depending on the severity of poisoning, use from 10 to 20 ml (approximately 1/3–2/3 of the contents of a 30 ml bottle or 5–10 doses from a dosing pump) of Espumisan.
Dosage in children
Depending on the severity of poisoning, use from 2.5 to 10 ml (from 65 drops to approximately 1/3 of the contents of a 30 ml bottle or up to 5 doses from a dosing pump) of Espumisan.
Note: If Espumisan is used as a first aid measure after swallowing detergent, consult a doctor immediately!
