“Description
The drug contains the active substance levodropropizin, which has antitussive and bronchospasmodic properties.
Composition
The active substance is levodropropizine. 5 ml of syrup contains 30 mg of levodropropizin.
The other ingredients are: citric acid monohydrate, sodium hydroxide, sucrose, raspberry flavor, purified water, nitrogen with low oxygen content.
Raspberry flavor contains: flavoring substance, flavoring preparation, natural flavoring substance, propylene glycol (E1520), ethanol.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Use in children over 2 years of age
Body weight 10-20 kg: the recommended dose is 3 ml of syrup 3 times a day.
Body weight 20-30 kg: the recommended dose is 5 ml of syrup 3 times a day.
Use in adults
The recommended dose is 10 ml of syrup up to 3 times a day.
Do not use Adrimax for longer than 7 days without consulting your doctor.
Action
The medicinal product Adrimax inhibits cough of various origins, such as cough associated with lung cancer, cough associated with infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract or whooping cough.
Indications
Adrimax is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of non-productive (dry) cough.
Contraindications
When not to use:
If you are allergic to levodropropizin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
If you have heavy bronchial secretions, a condition characterized by high production of mucus (phlegm);
If you suffer from impaired ciliary function of the bronchial epithelium characterized by a reduced ability to excrete mucus (Kartagener’s syndrome, ciliary dyskinesia);
In pregnant and breastfeeding women (see section “”Pregnancy and breastfeeding””).
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking Adrimax and seek medical help immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:
Severe skin reactions (hives, itching) or skin diseases, e.g. blistering (epidermolysis);
Uneven heartbeat (risk of arrhythmia);
Allergic and/or anaphylactic reaction such as swelling, shortness of breath, vomiting and diarrhea;
Dangerously low blood sugar levels that lead to loss of consciousness (hypoglycemic coma).
Very rare (occurring in less than 1 in 10,000 people):
Hives, erythema, rash, itching, skin reactions, severe allergic reaction manifested by swelling of the face, lips, larynx and throat (angioedema);
Stomach pain, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea;
Allergic reactions, including immediate general feeling of being unwell;
Dizziness, balance disorders, tremors, tingling, numbness;
Palpitations, fast heartbeat, low blood pressure;
Irritability, drowsiness, depersonalization (disturbed perception of oneself and the surroundings);
Shortness of breath, cough, swelling of the respiratory mucosa;
Deficiency or lack of strength (asthenia) and weakness in the lower limbs.
Additionally, the following side effects occurred:
Glossitis and aphthous stomatitis with fever;
Inflammation caused by obstruction of the flow of bile from the liver (cholestatic hepatitis);
Cases of generalized swelling, fainting and weakness;
Epileptic seizures – large epileptic seizure (clonic-tonic seizures) and small epileptic seizure (non-convulsive, so-called petit mal seizure);
Dilation of pupils and loss of vision. In both cases, the symptoms disappeared after discontinuation of the drug.
Swelling of the eyelids, which can most often be considered angioedema considering the simultaneous occurrence of urticaria.
Drowsiness, decreased muscle tone and vomiting in the newborn, which were attributed to the entry into the child’s body of levodropropizine taken by the breastfeeding mother.
These symptoms appeared after breastfeeding and disappeared spontaneously after several feedings were missed.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Adrimax. Adrimax is a medicine used for the symptomatic treatment of a non-productive (dry) cough and can only be used while waiting for the cause of the cough to be diagnosed and/or for the effect of treatment of the disease causing the cough.
Particular caution should be exercised when using levodropropizin in the elderly as there is evidence of altered sensitivity to many drugs in this group of patients.
Caution is recommended when using the drug in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 35 ml/min).
