Dosage
Otinum is used only topically, in the ear. The medicine is intended for use in adults.
Recommended dosage:
For short-term treatment of local symptoms of acute external otitis: usually 3-4 drops into the external auditory canal every 6-8 hours. Do not take Otinum for more than 3 days without your doctor’s advice.
To soften hardened earwax before removing it from the ear: Typically place 3-4 drops into the outer ear canal every 12 hours for four days.
Additional recommendations for the use of Otinum:
Having another person help you insert the medicine into your ear or use a mirror may make it easier to administer the medicine.
Be careful not to let water get into the ear where the medication was previously injected.
Do not share Otinum with other people.
Action
The active substance Otinum is a derivative of salicylic acid – choline salicylate. Choline salicylate, when applied topically, has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Thanks to this, it reduces pain and inflammation caused by inflammation of the external auditory canal. The glycerin contained in the medicine softens earwax, making it easier to remove.
After local administration to the ear, the drug does not have a systemic effect.
Indications
The drug is indicated for emergency use for inflammation of the external auditory canal, manifested by pain, itching and redness. The drug is also recommended for softening earwax before washing the external auditory canal.
Contraindications
When not to use Otinum:
if you are allergic (hypersensitivity) to the active substance (choline salicylate), other salicylates (eg acetylsalicylic acid/aspirin) or any other ingredient of this medicine;
if you have bleeding or discharge from your ear;
if you experience severe ear pain and hearing loss;
if you have previously been diagnosed with eardrum damage (ruptured or ruptured).
