“Composition
The active substance of the drug is dimenhydramine.
Each individual sachet contains 50 mg of dimenhydramine (Dimenhydrinatum) in 5 ml of oral solution.
The other ingredients are: sucrose, sodium saccharin (E 954), propylene glycol, blackcurrant flavor (propylene glycol, lactic acid, 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butanone, butyric acid, beta damascone, furaneol), purified water.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Effectan Max should be taken orally.
Adults and adolescents over 14 years of age: the recommended dose is 50 mg to 100 mg (1-2 sachets). If necessary, it can be repeated every 4 to 6 hours.
The maximum daily dose should not exceed 400 mg (no more than 8 sachets per day).
Children aged 6 to 14 years: the recommended dose is 25 to 50 mg (maximum 1 sachet of Effectan Max 50 mg/5 ml). In the case of a dose of 25 mg, a lower strength drug, Effectan, 25 mg/5 ml should be administered. If necessary, it can be repeated every 6 to 8 hours.
The maximum daily dose in children should not exceed 5 mg/kg body weight, with no more than 150 mg per day (no more than 3 sachets per day).
The onset of action occurs after 30 minutes. Therapeutic effects are observed for 3 to 6 hours after drug administration.
Action
Effectan Max has anti-emetic, anti-allergic and mildly sedative properties.
Indications
Effectan Max is used to prevent motion sickness and to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting of other origins (except those caused by drugs used in cancer chemotherapy).
When should you not use Effectan Max?
If you are allergic to the active substance, antihistamines or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.
If the patient suffers from: acute asthma attack, narrow-angle glaucoma, pheochromocytoma, porphyria, prostatic hypertrophy and retention of urine in the bladder, epilepsy.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Very common (occurring in 1 or more patients in 10) side effects are: drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, dizziness.
Common (occurring in 1 in 100 people) side effects are: agitation, sleep disturbances, anxiety, tremor, visual disturbances, increase in intraocular pressure, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (if you are allergic to dimenhydramine), constipation, abdominal pain, dryness oral mucosa, feeling weak and tired, difficulty urinating, muscle weakness.
Rare (occurring in 1 or more in 10,000 patients) side effects include: increased heart rate, drop in blood pressure, hemolytic anemia, headaches, insomnia, allergic skin reactions, skin hypersensitivity to sunlight, liver dysfunction, cholestatic jaundice.
Very rare (occurring in less than 1 in 10,000 people) side effects include exfoliative dermatitis and decreased appetite.
Warnings and precautions
This is a medicine. For safety, use it according to the leaflet included in the package. Pay attention to contraindications. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store at temperatures below 25°C.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Effectan Max: if you have liver problems, if you have hyperthyroidism, if you suffer from bradycardia (slow heart rate), hypertension, if you suffer from potassium deficiency or magnesium deficiency in the blood if you have chronic breathing difficulties if you have asthma if you have pyloric stenosis if you suffer from congenital long QT syndrome or other heart problems, e.g. circulation, arrhythmia.
Long-term use of dimenhydramine may lead to drug dependence. When using dimenhydramine in children, paradoxical reactions may occur (e.g. anxiety, irritability, tremors).
If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.
The medicine contains 2000 mg of sucrose in each sachet. This should be taken into account in patients with diabetes.
Taking other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Effectan Max should not be used simultaneously with: antiarrhythmic drugs, drugs that depress the central nervous system, or alcohol.”
