No-Spa is a medicinal product used in contractile states of smooth muscles in the abdominal cavity and small pelvis, i.e. in the digestive tract (stomach and intestines), bile and urinary tract, and in women also in the genital tract.
Composition
The active substance of the drug is drotaverine.
1 tablet contains 40 mg of drotaverine hydrochloride ( Drotaverini hydrochloridum ).
Excipients: maize starch, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, talc, povidone.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Adults: daily dose: 120 to 240 mg, divided into 2-3 doses.
If it is necessary to use Teku No-Spa in children:
daily dose for children from 6 to 12 years of age: 80 mg, divided into 2 doses
daily dose for children over 12 years of age: 160 mg, divided into 2-4 doses.
Action
No-Spa contains the active ingredient drotaverine hydrochloride. This substance is used in the contraction of smooth muscles of both nervous and muscular origin. The relaxing effect of drotaverine does not depend on the type of innervation and the location of smooth muscles (gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system, circulatory system and biliary system).
No-Spa soothes painful spasms in the digestive tract, bile ducts and genital tract.
Indications
No-Spa is used:
- in smooth muscle spasms associated with biliary tract diseases: cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, perivesicular inflammation, bile duct inflammation, inflammation of the Vater’s papilla
- in contractile conditions of smooth muscles of the urinary tract: kidney stones, ureterolithiasis, inflammation of the renal pelvis, cystitis, painful urge to urinate
and as an auxiliary:
- in contractile states of smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract: gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, gastritis, enteritis, colitis, in spasmodic states of the stomach and pylorus, irritable colon syndrome, spastic constipation and intestinal distension, pancreatitis
- in gynecological diseases: dysmenorrhea.
Contraindications
Do not use No-Spa: if you are allergic to drotaverine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, if you have severe liver, kidney and heart failure, if you have second-third degree atrioventricular block, and in children under the age of Six years.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): allergic reactions (angioedema, hives, rash, itching), headache and dizziness, insomnia, palpitations, decreased blood pressure, nausea, constipation.
Warnings and Precautions
No-Spa contains lactose. If you have been diagnosed with an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking the drug. Use with caution in patients with hypotension.
Keep the drug out of the sight and reach of children, at a temperature below 25 ° C. Protect from light.
Use of other medications
Tell your doctor about all the drugs you are taking or have recently taken, and about any drugs you plan to use.
Drotaverine reduces the effect of levodopa (a drug used in Parkinson’s disease).
Taking the drug with food and drink
No-Spa can be taken with or without food.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.
Drotaverine crosses the placenta. Use during pregnancy only on the recommendation of a doctor. Do not use the drug during childbirth. The use of this medication while breastfeeding is not recommended.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Do not use in children under 6 years of age.
Driving and operating machinery
At therapeutic doses, the drug administered orally has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines. If you feel dizzy, you should avoid potentially hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery.
