Product information
The active ingredient of the drug is pyrantel (pyrantelum) .
1 tablet contains 250 mg of pyrantel.
Other ingredients : potato starch, povidone, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, ethyl cellulose, magnesium stearate, orange flavor.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as directed in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- The drug is administered orally.
- Pyrantelum tablets should be chewed or crushed thoroughly before swallowing.
- The medicine should be washed down with water. Take with or after food.
- Take the next dose two or three weeks after the first dose.
- Parasitological checks should be carried out 14 days after the end of treatment.
Action
Pyrantelum affects roundworms in the gastrointestinal tract. It paralyzes your muscles, allowing them to be eliminated through peristaltic bowel movements. The drug has no effect on larvae that migrate through tissues.
Pyrantelum acts against the following roundworms :
- Enterobius vermicularis,
- Ascaris lumbricoides,
- Ancylostoma doudenale,
- Necator americanus,
- Trichostrongylus orientalis,
- Trichostrongylus colubriformis.
Indication
Enterobius vermicularis in children from 6 years and adults.
Contraindication
Do not use Pyrantelum Polpharma:
- if you are allergic to pyrantel or any other component of this product
- if you take piperazine
- if you are being treated for myasthenia gravis (disorder of the musculoskeletal system).
Side effects
Like all medicines, this product can have side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
- Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and cramps, diarrhea, anorexia,
- Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia,
- Rash,
- weakness,
- temporary increase in transaminases.
Side effects with unknown frequency:
- chair press,
- Hallucinations with confusion, paresthesia (numbness, tingling sensation),
- Fever,
- hard of hearing.
Warnings and precautions
If you have impaired liver function, malnutrition or anemia, consult a doctor before taking the medicine.
Storage space:
- Store the medicine at room temperature.
- Keep the medicine out of the reach and sight of children.
Taking other medicines
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking or have recently taken, and about any medicines you plan to take.
Pyrantelum Polpharma may increase plasma levels of theophylline (used to treat asthma).
The drug cannot be used together with piperazine – the effect of both drugs is weakened.
Taking the drug with food and drink
The medicine should be taken with or after food.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Drug use in children and adolescents
Due to the form of the medicine (tablets), do not use in children under 6 years of age.
