“Composition
The active substance is ivy leaf extract (Hederae helicis folii extractum siccum).
1 ml of syrup contains 7 mg of dry ivy leaf extract (Hedera helix L. folium) (4-8: 1), extraction solvent: ethanol 30%.
Other excipients: potassium sorbate, sorbitol, xanthan gum, citric acid monohydrate, cherry flavor, purified water. Cherry flavor ingredients: natural flavoring preparations, natural flavoring substances, other ingredients: propylene glycol, cherry juice concentrate, triacetin, diacetin.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Adolescents (from 12 years of age), adults and the elderly: 5 ml three times a day.
Children from 6 to 11 years: 5 ml twice a day.
Children from 2 to 5 years: 2.5 ml twice a day.
Action
Pecolvan belongs to a group of expectorant medicines. Helps remove mucus and phlegm from the lungs and bronchi.
Indications
Pectolvan is used to relieve wet cough in adults, adolescents and children over 2 years of age.
Contraindications
When not to use Pectolvan:
If you are allergic to ivy leaf extract, to plants from the Araliaceae family or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
If you suffer from hereditary fructose intolerance (a rare genetic condition in which a person cannot process fructose).
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Frequency of unknown side effects (cannot be estimated based on available data): gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, and allergic reactions such as hives, skin rash, shortness of breath, anaphylactic reaction. hives, skin rash, shortness of breath, anaphylactic reaction.
Warnings and precautions
Before taking Pectolvan, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice:
if you suffer from gastritis (inflammation of the lining of the stomach), peptic ulcer disease (stomach ulcers), if you are taking medicines to prevent cough such as codeine or dextromethorphan.
Pectolvan contains sorbitol.
Do not store at temperatures above 25oC.
After first opening the bottle: 90 days.
Taking other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
No studies on the interaction of Pectolvan with other drugs have been performed.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
For pregnant or breastfeeding women, consult your doctor before using the medicine.
This medicine is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient data on the use of dry ivy leaf extract in pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
This medicine should not be given to children under 2 years of age.
If your child is between 2 and 4 years old and has a persistent or recurrent cough, consult your doctor before giving Pectolvan.
Driving vehicles and machines
No studies on the effect on the ability to drive or use machines have been performed.
There is no evidence that medicinal products containing ivy leaf affect the ability to drive or use machines.
