“Lactulose is a disaccharide consisting of D-galactose and fructose. Lactulose-MIP is a mild laxative with an osmotic effect. Two processes are responsible for the laxative effect of lactulose:
sugar and acids cause a change in osmotic pressure (an increase in the volume of intestinal contents), which indirectly stimulates intestinal motility;
acids directly stimulate intestinal motility.
Indications
Intended Use:
constipation;
prevention and treatment of hepatic encephalopathy.
Compound
15 ml of syrup contains: 9.75 g of lactulose
Other excipients: cherry flavor IFF 16-21-3618, citric acid.
anhydrous, purified water.
Dosage
Always take this medication exactly as directed in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any doubts, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The dosage should be selected individually according to the patient’s needs, severity and course of the disease.
Lactulose should be taken orally. The included measuring cup is used to measure the syrup. Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, use the following dosage regimen:
Constipation
Adults and teenagers
(14-17) years – Initial dose: 15-45 ml internally, 1 or 2 doses
divided which corresponds to 9.75-29.25 g lactulose
Maintenance dose: 15-30 ml, which corresponds to 9.75-19.5 g lactulose
Children (7-14 years old) -Initial dose: 15 ml which corresponds to 9.75 g lactulose
Maintenance dose: 10-15 ml which corresponds to 6.5-9.75 g lactulose
Children (1-6 years old) – Initial dose: 5-10 ml, which corresponds to 3.25-6.5 g lactulose
Maintenance dose: 5-10 ml, which corresponds to 3.25-6.5 g lactulose
Infants – Initial dose: (up to 1 year) up to 5 ml, which meets up to 3.25 g lactulose
Maintenance dose: up to 5 ml each, which corresponds to up to 3.25 glactulose
The dosage should be adjusted so that the patient has loose stools. The drug can be used in a single daily dose or in two divided doses. Take a single daily dose simultaneously, for example, with breakfast.
After a few days, the initial dose may be adjusted to a maintenance dose depending on the response to treatment. The therapeutic effect may appear after a few days (2-3 days of treatment).
If after this time there is no adequate therapeutic effect, consult a doctor.
If the patient is treated with laxatives for a longer period, they should be withdrawn gradually.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Laxatives should only be used in children, infants and newborns in special cases and under medical supervision as they may interfere with normal bowel movements. Lactulose-MIP should not be given to children under 14 years of age without consulting a doctor. Elderly and patients with kidney or liver disease: There are no specific dosage recommendations.
Contraindications
When should you not use Lactulose-MIP:
if you are allergic to lactulose or any other ingredient of the drug;
if you have an intestinal obstruction;
if you have inflammation of the digestive tract;
if you have galactosemia.
Notes on use
Lactulose-MIP can be taken mixed with water or other liquids. The medicine can be taken regardless of food.
A single dose of lactulose should be swallowed without remaining in the mouth for too long.
When using laxatives, it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids (approximately 1.5–2 l/day, i.e. 6–8 glasses).
The laxative effect may take 2–10 hours to appear. If the dose is insufficient, the first stool may take 24–48 hours to pass. The duration of treatment depends on the course of the disease.
