Calperos is a drug containing calcium carbonate that provides the body with a source of ionized calcium.
Composition
One hard capsule of the drug contains 200 mg of calcium ions in the form of 500 mg of calcium carbonate.
Excipients: magnesium stearate, talc.
The composition of the gelatin capsule: titanium dioxide (E 171), indigo carmine (E 132), gelatin.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The dosage is usually based on the daily requirement, which is as follows:
Adults: 1 to 2 hard capsules (200 mg to 400 mg calcium) 2 to 3 times a day.
Children over 7 years of age and adolescents: 1 hard capsule (200 mg calcium) up to 3 times a day. It is recommended to take the drug with a meal.
Action
Calcium is an element that takes part in the formation and mineralization of bone tissue throughout human life. It conditions proper nerve conduction and contractility of striated muscles. It maintains the electrolyte balance of the body, and also affects the efficiency of the heart muscle. Participates in the process of blood clotting. It affects the catalytic activity of a number of enzymes, and also acts as a transmitter, thanks to which chemical, physical or hormonal stimuli are transformed into a specific biological effect. Due to the properties of reducing the permeability of blood vessel walls, calcium has anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling properties.
The calcium carbonate in Calperos helps to meet the daily calcium requirement, reduces the loss of calcium from the skeletal system in peri and postmenopausal women and in all elderly people. It prevents the occurrence of bone changes in the course of chronic renal failure.
Indications
Calperos capsules are used in the case of:
Conditions of increased demand for calcium: the period of intensive growth in children and adolescents as well as during pregnancy and lactation.
Incorrect nutrition with calcium-poor foods.
Disorders of calcium reabsorption from the renal tubules.
Low levels of calcium in the blood with increased levels of phosphorus in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing dialysis and the prevention of increased neuromuscular excitability.
Prophylactically in prevention and complementary in the comprehensive treatment of osteoporosis.
Sany after prolonged immobilization and recovery after bone fractures.
Adjunctively in the treatment of colds.
Contraindications
Do not use Calperos:
if you are allergic to the active substance or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
increased levels of calcium in the blood and excessive calcium excretion in the urine, e.g. in hyperthyroidism, parathyroid glands, vitamin D3 overdose, decalcifying tumors such as myelomas and bone metastases, in severe renal failure not treated with dialysis;
kidney stones;
treatment with cardiac glycosides;
severe hypercalciuria (urine with too much calcium excreted).
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The frequency of side effects is defined as follows:
uncommon: affects 1 to 10 patients in 1,000;
rare: affects 1 to 10 patients in 10,000.
Metabolism and nutrition disorders
Uncommon: excess calcium in the blood, excessive excretion of calcium in the urine.
Not known: milk-alkaline syndrome, usually only seen in overdose. The milk-alkaline syndrome is usually reversible after drug discontinuation and specific treatment (saline-induced diuretic effect, pamidronic acid).
Gastrointestinal disorders
Rare: constipation, flatulence, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders
Rare: pruritus, rash, urticaria.
